The NFKK Young Researcher Award (NYRA)

The aim of the “NFKK Young Researcher Award” is to promote high-quality Nordic research in clinical chemistry. The award is presented and homed by the Nordic Society for Clinical Chemistry (NFKK). The competition is held every two years in conjunction to the Nordic Congress in Clinical Chemistry.

Scientists under 40 years of age who have not previously received the 1st Prize of NYRA (or the predecessor of NYRA, i.e. the Astrup 1st Prize), and who are working in one of the Nordic countries, are invited to submit an abstract comprising recent scientific work. The abstract may not exceed 1,000 words (including references) and may include no more than two illustrations. The submitted work may be unpublished or recently published (defined as publications appearing between the abstract deadlines of two consecutive Nordic Congresses; see below). The abstract should be accompanied by an updated short CV outlining clinical, laboratory, and research experience, as well as publication information (maximum 2 pages).

Incoming abstracts are evaluated by a committee of five senior clinical chemistry scientists, one from each Nordic country. Three abstracts are selected for oral presentation at the Nordic Congress. Each presentation may not exceed 20 minutes followed by 5 min open discussion. Based on the scientific merit of the work, the applicant’s curriculum vitae, and the quality of the oral presentation, the committee will award three prizes valued at DKK 40,000, 20,000, and 10,000 for first, second, and third place, respectively. The award is intended to be used for research or educational purposes. Travel and accommodation expenses are funded by the congress.

The next NFKK Young Researcher Award (NYRA) will be presented at the Nordic Congress in Clinical Chemistry in Aarhus, Denmark, September 15-18, 2026 (https://conferences.au.dk/nordic-congress-in-clinical-biochemistry). Abstracts should be submitted directly to the Chair of the NYRA Committee, Professor Lars Melholt Rasmussen (lars.melholt.rasmussen@rsyd.dk), by June 1, 2026. Published work as part of a NYRA 2026 abstract must be registered in PubMed between June 1, 2024 and May 31, 2026.

The three selected finalists will be invited to publish their presentations, either as a regular article or as part of a review, in the Scandinavian Journal of Clinical and Laboratory Investigation (SJCLI). In addition, they are expected to prepare a summary for Klinisk Biokemi i Norden (KBN).
